Citizen Police Academy shoots for hands on, crime stopping education
This spring the St. Charles Police Department will host its annual Citizen Police Academy. The program gives participants a better understanding of how the St. Charles Police Department operates. Some of the topics covered will include criminal and narcotics investigations, arrest and courts procedures, traffic stops, the K-9 unit, the Tactical Response Team, crime scene processing, domestic violence and the Firearms Training Simulators (F.A.T.S.). The curriculum includes classroom instruction as well as outside demonstrations and hands-on activities when possible, such as fingerprint processing, using a radar gun or shooting on the F.A.T.S. machine. Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday, March 6-April 26 from 7-9pm. The program is free but an application must be completed and is subject to approval. Applications are available at the Police Department or at stcharlesil.gov/pd/programs.
City shares cost of parkway trees with homeowners
The City of St. Charles is offering trees for planting in parkways through its “50/50 Tree Planting Program.” Through the program, the City of St. Charles shares the cost of planting trees with homeowners. Residents simply choose the tree they want, submit payment and the city handles the rest. Trees will be planted in April/May and are covered by a one year warranty. Order forms and a list of available trees are available at stcharlesil.gov or by calling 630-377-4405. Orders must be submitted by March 30.
